Ozuma Hussain, a much-beloved volunteer at Thornbury and a shining example of our STAR values, was thrilled to win the Bradford Telegraph and Argus ‘Voluntary Contribution’ Award earlier this week. Ozuma excelled in her teaching assistant course at Thornbury and has been an outstanding role model for our pupils ever since. It has been wonderful to see her using the knowledge and skills she gained during her studies to make such a positive impact on the lives of staff and pupils. Ozuma is willing to lend a helping hand in whatever capacity we require and takes pride in everything she does. She has provided invaluable support to Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils with their reading, writing and maths and has also helped our Office staff with administrative duties.

Ozuma was nominated for the award by Mrs Dhothar, who said,

“Ozuma’s dedication to her learning has been outstanding, which is proven by her standard of work, her willingness to learn and her total commitment to improve herself. Since completing the Level 2 course, Ozuma has continued with her studies and is now volunteering in school on a regular basis. Ozuma is very hardworking, which is highlighted by her punctuality, her attention to detail and her flexibility to help in any part of the school. Ozuma is an outstanding role model for all our children, who is respected and appreciated by all staff.”

Ozuma said,

“I really enjoy volunteering at the school and I hope the children are happy to see me win this award. I didn’t expect it! I’ll be showing my family the award and will bring it into school.”
